I have worked with Isabella with crate training since the day she came home. She took to the new crate within a few days, no problem. We even had a little good night routine set up. After a brushing and tummy rub down she would walk into the crate without a word. But the past three nights something odd keeps happening. She goes into the crate as usual then I'll get ready to go to bed and the minute I crawl under my sheets she starts scratching at the bottom of the crate and the door, then she starts to whine and growl. Her crate is by my bed and she can see where I am all through the night. After I turn off the light and tell her to shush a few times she goes to sleep. It's not long but it's lasting longer with every night. Anyone else heard of this behavior? I know the crate isnt the greatest place to be in the world but why the sudden 'oh crap i'm in a crate' out of no where behavior? |

Awww maybe she wants to be with mommy? I am not sure...ALaska was crated for a long time until I was confident that she wouldn't walk off the bed in the middle of the night and hurt herself. Now both Cody and Alaska sleep with me! One big cozy family! |

My dog does the same thing sometiimes it is like he is trying to dig a comfy spot (there was always a soft mat in the bottom of the crate) so now my solution is to always put a toy in there with him his favorite stuffed teddy bear. what toy is her favorite try putting it in her crate at bed time it worked for me and bailey(he lays his chin on the teddy bear and fally asleep) |

Just a quick question: is there not any strange noises going on outside (distant thunder of firecrackers) that could be making him feel a little threatened? |

no not in my situation anyway. i did some research and it is natural for dogs to dig with there front paws to find a comfy spot. because if they were out in the wild(in a den they would did to find a comfy spot) |

hi anita, how is the crate training going? Does Isabella still show that behaviour or did it get better? sorry i don't have any experience with crate training. Baily sleeps in bed with me, so of course mr. i-am-not-pampered-i-am-spoiled-rotton has no reason to cry ![]() is there a reason that you want her to sleep in the crate at night (pooty training ect.)? or is it just that you dont want her to be allowed on the bed? would it be an option for you to keep the crate open at night and let her pick a sleeping spot herself (other then your bed of course lol)... |

Sorry I don't have experience with this either. Ash took to his crate easily, though he does end up in my bed every now and then Has it gotten any better? |
